Is Adobe Creative Cloud All Apps Plan Worth it?

Adobe until today, is still the dominant powerhouse in terms of graphic design tools. Since the era of their Creative Cloud plan, the perpetual license is replaced with the subscription model.

Pricing

In my opinion, by comparing the pricing between the current Creative Cloud with the old perpetual model, the current model is more reasonable and reachable, especially for freelancers and small studios.

The perpetual Master Collection that contains all Adobe Creative Suite apps costs a whopping US$2599, which is easily out of reach for most freelancers and small studios.

Meanwhile, with the current Creative Cloud subscription model, the equivalent CS6 Master Collection only costs US$52.99 per month. That roughly takes 4 years to get the CS6 Master Collection full price.

Benefits

There are several great benefits if you subscribe to the Adobe Creative Cloud plan:
  • For the All Apps plan, obviously, you will get access to all Adobe Creative Cloud apps, including all of their smartphone apps.
  • You can use it on 2 computers simultaneously.
  • Access to all commercially licensed Adobe Fonts. Commercial fonts usually don't come cheap and may price in hundred dollars each, so these 'free' premium fonts are a great steal.
  • You get a free web portfolio builder and free hosting service called Adobe Portfolio. You just need to buy a custom domain for it. For a portfolio showcase, I think they look great and very easy to customize without requiring any web coding skills. For equivalent services like Wix or Squarespace, Adobe Portfolio saves you around US$12 per month.
  • 100GB cloud storage. They are pretty useful to store your important graphical assets such as stock images, third-party fonts, and many other resources. For equivalent services such as Google Drive or Microsoft OneDrive 100GB, this Adobe plan saves you around $2 per month.

Is it worth it to subscribe to the All Apps plan?

Actually, it all really depends on what you do regularly. If you are just a photographer or just simply doing photo editing or photo manipulation work where your work solely in Photoshop, the All Apps plan will be just a waste of money. The same thing for vector designer or vector illustrator.

The All Apps, in my opinion, best suited for multidisciplinary designers that do more than just photo editing or vector graphic. This plan works best for brand identity designers where they would work on multiple apps such as Illustrator for logo designs and all its elements, Photoshop for photo editing and flyers, InDesign for multi-page designs such as magazines, booklets, newsletters, and the like. They may also do custom product mockups in Dimension, doing simple video editing in Premiere or After Effects.

Due to its still a relatively high monthly price, it also targeted high-paid artists or designers.

I cannot recommend it to hobbyists unless you want some money to burn.

Okay, my budget is limited. How to overcome this?

Unable to subscribe to the Adobe All Plan is not the end of your graphic design career. There are many alternatives available and they even come for free.

I have to admit though, working between Adobe apps is a real advantage compared to working with different apps from different software developers. The current CC Library feature is one thing that tied all those Adobe apps that make sharing graphical assets from one app to another so much easier, faster, and efficient. The benefits I mentioned above are also a great, great deal that you will not find anywhere else.

And there is a price for those things.
